PSJA ECHS Senior Among 15 in Texas Selected for Prestigious H-E-B UIL Scholarship

Student Recognized for academic excellence, UIL Participation, and Community Service 
 

SAN JUAN, TX – PSJA Early College High School (ECHS) senior Allison Gutierrez has been selected as a recipient of the H-E-B UIL Scholarship, becoming one of only 15 students across the entire state of Texas to earn this prestigious recognition. 
 
Allison was awarded the scholarship in the academic category, one of three areas recognized by the program, which also includes athletics and music. Each year, H-E-B selects five students in each category who demonstrate excellence in UIL participation, strong academic performance, and a commitment to community service. 
 
The H-E-B UIL Scholarship  awards recipients with a $2,000 scholarship to support their postsecondary education. Scholars are also recognized on a statewide stage during the UIL Texas Girls & Boys Basketball State Championships, highlighting their achievements among the top students in Texas. 
 
“Receiving the H-E-B UIL Scholarship is an incredible honor, and I’m truly grateful,” said Gutierrez. “UIL has been a part of my journey since elementary school, and I’ve continued that passion in high school through Ready Writing, Social Studies, and Literary Criticism. I hope to carry forward the spirit of this scholarship by continuing to excel academically and serving others through community involvement.” 
 
In addition, through PSJA ISD’s commitment to academic excellence and student involvement, Allison has participated in the PSJA Early College Program, earning an Associated Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from South Texas College during the 205 fall commencement ceremony in December, an entire semester before earning her high school diploma, preparing her for success in college and beyond.
