Dozens attend Adopt-A-Pet event hosted by PSJA Sustainability in partnership with Chick-fil-A Pharr and Paws Fur Help

PHARR – The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) Sustainability Team, in collaboration with Chick-fil-A Pharr and Paws Fur Help, hosted an “Adopt-A-Pet” event on Saturday, November 16, 2024, bringing the community together to help pets in need find a loving home.

Held at Chick-fil-A Pharr, the event celebrated sustainability, community, and the power of partnerships to create a positive impact. The event featured various booths by local vendors, student organizations, and local businesses, alongside adoptable pets from Paws Fur Help. Attendees were encouraged to provide pets in need with a loving forever home.

A special highlight of the event was the creativity of PSJA students, who designed and assembled dog houses and dog toys made from sustainable materials. As a token of support for new pet owners, families who adopted a dog received one of the custom-built doghouses and a dog toy free of charge.

“I was so happy to adopt a dog at the event,” said Jackson Rocha. “I learned that pets need a safe home and lots of love. The doghouse made by the high schoolers is also really nice, I’m happy that my new dog has a nice place to sleep. It was a great event.”

The Rocha family is happy and honored to have been able to serve a pet in need and through the event, learned that sustainability has the power to bring the community together to partner for people, purpose, and the planet.

As part of PSJA ISD’s efforts to promote sustainability district-wide, the event provided hands-on learning activities for the students as well as highlighted the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 4: Quality Education, 3: Good Health & Well Being, 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, and 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

PSJA ISD thanks all attendees, vendors, and partners who helped to find loving homes for the two dogs who were adopted that day.
